A question from Isaac Traylor, Yuetian Wang, Mark Saull, and Taiyi Ding
Q: We learned in the class that the principles of bushido, loyalty and honor, still affect Japanese people's everyday life. How do they affect your life?
Bushido which has a great regard for loyalty and honor still affects our life. Many Japanese still have the idea that we should have greater regard for loyalty and honor than for self-profit or money. We also think that organization is very important. So, we work very hard for the organization. Even when we had the great earthquake on March 11 this year, many Japanese didn't become emotional. One of the reasons is that we have the mind that we should think of others and keep order. If we had not had the mind, a lot of frictions must have happened at that time.
Is it common in your students club or company? Could you please give some example? Like one would be willing to lose his/her job to protect club's or company's honor? Thanks,
What happens if the club or organization makes decision against what your personal sentiments are? Like Wang asked, I'm curious as to how strong Bushido is when it conflicts with you, personally.
I think it is really incredible how the Japanese people bonded together to survive after the earthquake!
